To become an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion in our parish you must be a confirmed, practicing Catholic, attend required diocesan and parish training and be called forth by our pastor or staff.

Extraordinary Ministers:
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHCs) are laypeople who are authorized to assist in the distribution of Holy Communion during Mass and in other situations like visiting the sick and homebound. To become a Eucharistic Minister, individuals must be a fully initiated Catholic, in good standing with the Church and meet other requirements outlined by the Diocese of Rockville Centre. They must also be recommended by their pastor, complete required training sessions and undergo background checks through Virtus.
TRAINING:
Session A is required of all Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. Those who wish to minister in hospitals, nursing homes and to homebound people are also required to attend Session B. The pastor of the parish must send a letter to Bishop Barres at least 10 days in advance of training. The training program involves presentations on the theology of the Eucharist, Eucharist Spirituality, the liturgical norms which govern the distribution of the sacrament, and a practice session.
SCHEDULING:
Ministers choose the time of the mass they would like to serve at and will receive a schedule every three months. If you're unable to serve on a date or time scheduled you are responsible for finding a replacement.
