The Consolation Ministers assist those parishioners who have lost a loved one. The Ministers call the family and make arrangements to meet with them at the church. They help the family select scripture readings, music and show them the way family and friends may participate at the Mass of Christian Burial. The Ministers will also attend the Mass to be of assistance to the family.
Bereavement
The loss of a loved one can be painful for a very long time. Everyone’s grief process is different. You may find yourself jumping back and forth between the stages of grief: anger, denial, depression, bargaining and acceptance. Grief can keep us from living whole and productive lives. We may feel abandoned and isolated. It’s difficult to imagine ever being happy or seeing anything positive or hopeful ever again.
Peace, love and joy are still present within your heart, waiting to be uncovered. In order to help with your bereavement healing call the Diocese of Rockville Centre Office of Faith Formation at (516) 678-5800 X509 or go online to their website at drvc-faith.org for a list of bereavement groups that will meet your needs.
You may also contact Good Shepherd Hospice at (631) 828-7631 for a listing of their many bereavement groups.
